Commissioning

Joint planning and commissioning is at the heart of improving outcomes for children and young people under Every Child Matters.   How will the process look in Birmingham and what are the implications for the work of voluntary and community organisations?

VCS Matters has organised two seminars to shed light on this important issue.  Key statements and documents are below, including 3 podcast interviews with key participants at the VCS Matters Commissioning Seminar on 20 September.  The 3 podcasts were produced by Nick Booth of podnosh.com and are each about 5 minutes long (Downloading may take some time).

  1. PODCAST 1 with Phil Huburn King (Senior Commissioning Officer, Children Young People & Families Directorate, Birmingham City Council) on commissioning in Birmingham, with reactions from Peter Angwin (Family Welfare Association), Ava Johnson (Harambee), and Emily Tarrington and Janet Brown-Elsyed (The Children's Society).
  2. PODCAST 2 with Maureen Connolly (Chief Executive, Birmingham & Solihull Women's Aid) on her organisation's experiences with commissioning.
  3. PODCAST 3 with Azkar Mohammed (Project Manager, Pioneers Leading the Way) on his organisation's experiences with commissioning.

From the same seminar you can also download below Phil Huburn King's presentation on 'Third Sector Commissioning', a presentation on the 'Corporate Third Sector Commissioning Framework' by Theresa Gillard (Head of External Relations, BVSC), and the list of participants.

Further materials will be made available as soon as possible.
