Old Possum's Practical Trust
Old Possum’s Practical Trust makes a number of grants each year to further the aims of the Trust:
- to increase knowledge and appreciation of any matters of historic, artistic, architectural, aesthetic, literary, musical or theatrical interest.
On-line submission is our preferred method of application. Faxed or emailed applications will be rejected but you may post your application if you have a good reason why you cannot submit your request on-line.
Professional fundraisers who derive a proportion of their personal income from money raised are unlikely to be successful. The charity does not normally support individuals but rather organisations involved in the charity’s fields of interest. However, it is not limited to these areas and all applications will be considered.
Unfortunately, the numbers of requests for grants greatly outnumber the available funds each year and the Trustees must, therefore, select those they feel are most appropriate. It will not be possible to give reasons for rejected applications.
Grants are more likely to be given for projects that involve:
- children or young people
- disabled or disadvantaged people
- communities
and which fall within historic, artistic, architectural, aesthetic, literary, musical or theatrical criteria and which enhance the lives of others, rather than the well-being of the applicants themselves.
Unless your application closely follows these criteria it is unlikely that you will be the beneficiary of a grant. Funds will not normally be granted for:
- activities or projects already completed
- capital building projects
- personal training and education eg: tuition or living costs for college or university
- projects outside the UK
- medical care or resources
- feasibility studies
- national charities having substantial amounts of potential funding likely from other sources
The amount of each grant usually falls within the range of £500 - £5,000.
Grants will not normally be provided for personal study or where the applicant is an individual who owns property.
The Trustees do, however, retain the right to give discretionary grants outside the criteria listed above, but do so only in exceptional circumstances.
